Purpose

Privacy is the right to have your personal information used and managed fairly and transparently. Your privacy is important to us. In accordance with the Privacy Act 2020, this privacy statement has been developed to help you understand how we collect, disclose, and use your personal information.

Why and how we collect your personal information

Any personal information we collect about you is associated with a function or activity of Tawa Baptist Church. We will make clear to you how this information is used.

We will only collect personal information directly from the person concerned. However, there are exceptions, such as when the person consents to collection from another source, when it’s necessary to uphold or enforce the law, or when the information is publicly available.

Use of information

Any information we collect is usually kept for reasons such as but not limited to:

  • To enable authorised staff and ministry leaders to know about you and communicate with you, and to facilitate and provide for your care and spiritual growth.
  • To enable ministry leaders to communicate with members of their groups.
  • To enable members of the church community to communicate with one another.
  • To enable us to communicate with people who sign up for events and programmes.
  • To provide summarised, depersonalised information for use in the management and decision making processes of this church or denominational body.
  • To enable us to communicate with people who hire our buildings.

We will never hand out or use any information about you other than for the intended purposes or other compatible purposes without first getting your consent.

We will only retain your information for as long as it is needed to meet the intended purposes.

Access to your personal information

Your information belongs to you, and you are able to access it and to make changes to it.

Security

We will protect your personal information by all reasonable means against loss, theft, unauthorised access, disclosure, copying, use, or modification.

Members of the church community who obtain personal information, for example, through a church directory, will undertake not to misuse the information.

Video Surveillance

We use surveillance cameras for building security and health and safety purposes. Please refer to the CCTV Policy for more information.
